Working World Extravaganza
MAJOR
RESOURCES FOR CLASS OF 2013
The school year for matrics in Nelson
Mandela Bay has started on a high note with the distribution by the private
sector of a range of career guidance resources.
Barely weeks after schools started the
year, Grade 12 learners have received acclaimed career guidance workbooks,
developed by industry to supplement
their Life Orientation syllabus.
The business community is also preparing to
engage school leavers on a large scale, directly through the annual Working
World Extravaganza career guidance exhibition at the Feathermarket Centre in
March. (13-15 March, 2013)
Organiser, Wellington Jansen of Inkanyezi
Events said the exhibition would bring together unprecedented numbers of
corporations and educational institutions to share resources with up to
15 000 learners at 200 schools over three days.
While many corporates will exhibit
alongside local and national educational institutions at the expo, the Nelson
Mandela Bay Business Chamber’s Top 40 under 40 nominees will interact and share resources and advice with
school prefect or leadership teams that have been invited to a special session
at the expo.
In preparing them for life after school, these
future leaders will also be addressed by some of the metro’s most successful
leaders, including Jane Stevenson, Tim Marshall, Neil Hart and Kings captain
Luke Watson.
The workbooks, approved for use in the Gr
12 Life Orientation syllabus by the Department Of Education, are developed and
distributed to schools free of charge thanks to the sponsorship of Volkswagen,
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Services SETA, PE College and the NMMU.
The
exhibition and all related resources, which include career guidance counselling
and a DVD seminar, are provided free of charge to learners.
Jansen said the level of career resources
available to schools in the region through the event alone “bodes well for the
Class of 2013’’.
Entry is free and the show runs from 9am to
3pm each day.
